The “Culture of Communication” is spreading at Hi-Hope. Many of the individuals that Hi-Hope services everyday use American Sign Language for communication, cognitive support and for enjoyment. To further the learning of all, the Communication staff conducts ASL training sessions each month. On each ASL training day, there will be two (2) sessions, both one hour in length. Each session will cover the same information and are open to all staff and visitors. ASL sessions are led by our Communication Specialist and Deaf staff. In addition, some pre-arranged sessions will include Deaf ASL Specialists from The Georgia Center for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing.
Sessions will include basic signs, vocabulary, simple phrases/sentences and important facts about Deaf culture. Sessions are taught in the Lifelong Learning Center at Hi-Hope Service Center in large group settings where all skill levels are welcome and appreciated.
